Me in a Nutshell

I’m a Registered Dietitian with my M.S. in Clinical Dietetics from the Ohio State University (Go Buckeyes!) and student of yoga for the past 20 years. I’ve been teaching since 2015, received my 500hr certification in 2021 and recently completed training to be a certified spiritual coach. I’ve also passed the exam administered by the National Board of Medical Examiners to become an NBC-HWC (Nationally Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach) along with becoming a certified Tarot and Oracle Card reader. To round out my modalities, I’m also a Trauma-Sensitive Certified HeartMath Practitioner. My goal is to give you confidence in my knowledge and abilities while deepening my understanding and skills of my trade!

 

However, when I’m not busy continually learning and growing, I have a lot of other things going on. I’m a proud cat mom of 5 and have a (slightly crazy and incredibly jealous) Alusky. I dabble in all forms of art from painting to crochet to papercraft and am a self-professed book dragon. I’m happiest on the trails, in a kayak, or in the backcountry, which nourishes my soul so much.

 

I’ve always been drawn to nature in a spiritual sense but didn’t know that there was a name for my beliefs until I was an adult. As I stepped onto my path, I realized that there are more people like me who are seekers that don’t know which way to turn. I’m here to help show you the guideposts on your path so that you can follow them to a place that makes you feel whole.  Tools like meditation, Tarot, and Reiki are mainstays in my practice, and as a Metaphysical Health Coach, I invite you to open yourself to these as ways to approach a holistic way of wellness. 

 

Blending both science and the spiritual, I’ve learned that not every piece of valid evidence comes from a lab. I pride myself on working with individuals to determine what their needs are and what does and doesn’t work for them. I use my knowledge and experience as a medical practitioner to evaluate different healing modalities and offer them with full transparency as to how and why they work and let YOU be in control of you journey. My passion is getting you to get to know yourself, to not be afraid to experiment, and to find what will nourish your mind, body, and soul. The answers are already in you and I’ve learned so many things from my own journey, that I want to help you find those answers in a holistic way.

My philosophy is that you know your life and body better than anyone. While conventional medicine is amazing, many times providers tell you to do something without any direction simply due to their time constraints. Health and Wellness is about more than just diet and exercise. Everything is interconnected and finding those connections to bring everything into balance will result in lasting results and happiness moreso than 'fixing' a single area of your life. I believe in a truly individualized and holistic approach to coaching where your goals, preferences, and interests dictate what your journey will entail instead of following a pre-made plan. YOU are in control of your journey.

Methodologies

Coaching Techniques
Motivational interviewing and appreciative inquiry are at the heart of my methods. These acknowledge that you have the answers and direction inside of yourself and help you to discover them. My method isn't about telling you what to do and how to do it. It's about you knowing where you want to go on your journey after digging deep and learning more about yourself, your values, and your desires. Once you've become clear on your vision, it's my job as a guide to teach you how to get there and overcome any barriers your may encounter. This may be though trying various techniques, trial and error, and learning from experiences. The great part about not using a pre-made plan is that it leaves us open to a multitude of methods to try so that we find the perfect ones for you.
Nutrition Counseling
Being a Registered Dietitian, I have advanced training in medical nutrition therapy. This uses science and evidence based practices to treat chronic conditions through diet. As such, while I'm open to the exploration of techniques, I counsel my patients on what is known from a physiological and biological standpoint. I don't generally endorse 'fad' diets without understanding the research conducted and if it's legitimate (because there are a LOT of bad studies out there). I also know that there's more to diet than calories and nutrients and aim to look holistically at everything that effects eating patterns. This way, we can create a plan that will not only help you meet your goals, but that is viable and enjoyable as well.
Yoga Practices
Yoga is an incredibly deep and varied practice. It's so much more than just the poses and I aim to teach that. I don't keep up with yoga trends and don't believe that the pinnacle of a good yoga practice is being about to do a handstand or put your legs behind your head. It's living yoga both on and off the mat through the study of it's history, philosophy, and true meaning. With a background in anatomy & physiology, I preach safety through alignment and mindfulness and incorporate the other branches of yoga into my practices. I'm adaptable in the style of flows I teach, being certified in several types, so student/client preferences and needs can be met. I also use my science and medical background to dispel misinformation about poses and techniques so students stay safe.
Metaphysical Modalities
Part of our wellbeing is the area of spirituality. It looks different for everyone and I aim to help people explore that part of themselves. I recognize that this is an area where science has to take a back seat and that many techniques that fall into this category cannot be scientifically proven. With these, I will present what is and is not known while acknowledging that anecdotal evidence is valid. There are certainly many things that we don't understand yet, but those who experience profound results from things like tarot, reiki, sound, and crystals can attest to their effects. I believe that this isn't something to be pushed on anyone and I encourage my clients to decide for themselves if it's something that would fit into their journey.
Communication & Extras
I'm always available for my clients through email and text for questions, motivation, etc. I aim to provide communication between sessions to remind you of the plans and tools we discussed to keep you on track towards your goals.
