My personal journey wouldn’t be anything without yoga and meditation. It has helped get me out of some very low points and I always turn to it to keep me growing. After practicing for about 15 years, I decided to pursue becoming a teacher. I always say that we are eternal students on this path, and as a lifelong learner, I’ve pursued different styles, knowledge paths, and skills. I’ll continue to do so for as long as I’m able.
Yoga isn’t just about the poses. It doesn’t matter if you’re flexible or stiff, strong or weak, large or small bodied. Yoga is for EVERY BODY because the poses are only one small part of it. I don’t believe in the ‘workout’ of Yoga because it is instead a “work-in” that encompasses uniting our mind, body, and soul through learning, meditation, lifestyle, thoughts, and actions. I teach not just a flow class, but I incorporate the philosophy of Yoga into my classes and my private students receive in-depth guidance, “homework”, and supplemental teachers to help them really grow in their path.
Slow and control movements through a variety of standing, seated, and supine poses. Each pose is usually held for several breaths to promote a mind-body connection. Very few vinyasas or fast transitions.
Primarily focused on standing and balancing poses along with core strengthening seated postures. This class will definitely strengthen you and improve your balance through flows that build through repetition
Typically structured where you move in an out of a pose with each inhale and exhale, this class is one that can get your heartrate up. Through a variety of poses, you’ll increase strength and flexibility and can count on frequent ‘vinyasas’ to reset your alignment and prepare you for the next pose or sequence.
This style focuses on the fascia, the connective tissue that surrounds all of our muscles, bone, etc. Unlike a flow class with many different poses, Yin has far fewer but they are held for 5-10 minutes each with the support of props like straps, blocks, and bolsters. This style is known to help increase mobility in and around the joints along with offering muscles time to relax and lengthen
Known as “high energy power yoga’, this class starts with 20 minutes of dynamic yoga poses done in a HIIT style work/rest style followed by a 40 minute flow focused on the poses performed during the HIIT portion. This helps you gain strength and endurance in poses to enhance your traditional practice
If physical limitations make a traditional yoga class unavailable, chair yoga is a great alternative. Many poses can be performed on a chair in order to make them more accessible. I’ve taught many mixed classes where several students are in chairs while others are on mats and everyone is able to benefit.
This is what the poses are designed to prepare us for. I teach several styles of meditation from breathwork, mindfulness, contemplative, and visualization. It doesn’t matter if you’ve never meditated before or are a seasoned practitioner. Learning to observe our minds without judgement is something that we can practice and improve upon any time
I began my yoga journey with a style that is focused on proper alignment. That has always stuck with me. In a time when hands-on adjustments have become unpopular, I fully embrace them with any student who feel comfortable with. Using a ‘2-finger touch’ technique along with verbal cues, I aim to keep my students in alignment so that they can not only ‘feel’ their bodies in space, but also to keep them physically and free from injuries
You can expect a theme and talk at the beginning of class known as a ‘dharma talk’ that make yogic philosophy accessible and relatable. Then we’ll flow through whatever style class (hatha is the default) followed by a guided meditation at the end and a final Reiki-style energy healing to bring everything into alignment. This helps to tie the class together and leave you feeling balanced and refreshed
Private yoga involves me guiding you on your journey in an individualized style. Goals, limitations, and preferences are all taken into account as I create a plan for your with flows, readings, homework like journaling, and guided meditations based upon what you want included on your journey. 1:1 can range from a single class to a long term plan with multiple sessions each week.
