Why is metaphysical health coaching important?
On my own journey to wellness, I focused a lot on eating properly and staying active. Who doesn’t? It’s really easy to think that health & wellness = nutrition & exercise. However, that’s not the whole picture. I discovered a huge hole in my wellbeing. It came from focusing solely on the physical aspects of my health and neglecting everything mental, emotional, and spiritual.
That set me on a path that led me to yoga, meditation, and a path of spiritual development that I had been yearning for without even realizing it. Eventually I found practices and teachers to lead me on my journey. Tarot and journaling, shadow work and connecting with my beliefs have been a huge factor in feeling more complete.
Throughout my formal education as a Dietitian and even as a health coach, I noticed that most people don’t want to touch spirituality with a 10-foot stick. Even those who practice holistic health tend to avoid it since it’s so personal. I know I can’t be the only one who feels this deficit and wants to really help the whole person.
That’s why I consider what I do to be metaphysical health coaching
Metaphysical health coaching is the term I like to use to encompass everything that I do. Health coaching puts YOU in the drivers seat. This means that you decide what your priorities and goals are and work with your coach to create a roadmap to them. This usually involves focusing on things like diet, physical activity, stress, and sleep but definitely has the ability to encompass more.
Metaphysical health coaching, however, incorporates esoteric healing techniques and practices. Spiritual, mental, and emotional health has just as much importance as the physical. These practices can include things like tarot, reiki, crystals, herbalism, and guided meditations. This is totally up to the individual, but definitely an option for those who want to really get a fully holistic experience.
Metaphysical Health Coaching is a term that I created because it’s the best way to describe the approach I take to working with the whole person. It incorporates both the evidence based practices of being a Dietitian along with the more ‘woo woo’ approaches that can provide a spiritual sense of wholeness and self-discovery.
Holistic health care is about the whole person. If you feel like something is missing despite your best efforts to be ‘healthy’, it might be coming from the spiritual area of your life. This area doesn’t necessarily have to be related to a religious system of beliefs, but rather the connection you have to something greater than yourself in this physical existence.
Metaphysical health coaching helps you get in touch with your highest self through self analysis journaling, tarot, and meditation. Self discovery is one of the greatest tools we have in our journey to wellness because without it, we’re like a ship in the ocean without a course. It also allows you to experiment with healing modalities that you won’t find in a traditional healthcare setting because the term ‘metaphysics’ can get a little messy.
The term ‘metaphysics’ was first coined by Aristotle in ancient Greece. First he wrote about ‘physics’, concerning the physical world. Then he wrote about ‘metaphysics’ – beyond the physical world. This encompasses all the things that we are unable to see and scientifically test. Oftentimes it deals with matters of existence and exploring the principles that govern life.
Oftentimes these topics involve the exploration of existential questions through physical means to find meaning beyond the physical. Stanford University offers a great primer on the topic and you’ll see that it’s not necessarily an easy subject to define. The way I define it and work within it truly encompasses the concept that it is beyond the physical. It taps into things that we can feel but not fully comprehend on a scientific level.
Look around at practitioners of any healing modality whether it be a traditional doctor to an energy healer and you’ll find that usually they are either on team science or team woo-woo. There are many beliefs that the two styles of healing are mutually exclusive. Those who come from science based fields feel that only methods and experiments that can be measured through quantifiable data and replicated reliably are valid. Their motto is “if we can’t measure it, then it’s not real”. Those in the more ‘woo-woo’ fields embrace the idea that there are forces in this world that we just don’t understand. The work in one way or another, but we just can’t measure it other than through anecdotal evidence. They also tend to have a bit of disdain for conventional medicine and the like.
Coming from a highly scientific and evidence-based background, I was taught to disregard anything and everything was wasn’t scientifically verifiable. Anecdotal evidence gets poo-poo’d on and I feel that’s a bit limiting. On the flip side of things, my yoga and spiritual path have helped me open up to the idea of there being more to existence than we can measure. I still grapple with some concepts because they clash with my scientific training and aren’t verifiable. However, I feel that they still deserve some merit.
My personal path is what led me down the road towards practices like Reiki, tarot reading, and working with crystals. Can I be 100% sure that these things are really working the way I’ve been taught? Nope – and that’s the part of these practices that sceptics tend to get hung up on. However, if they help people get in touch with their highest self, connect to the earth, or improve their mental state, then I’m all for it. The types of practices don’t have to be mutually exclusive when they can be complementary.
If you’ve been working to improve your wellbeing but still feel ‘stuck’, this might be a good option for you. As I mentioned earlier, even in a holistic healthcare setting, areas like spirituality and self-discovery tend to get neglected. Therefore, even if you work closely with a healthcare provider, you might find that something is lacking.
As a health coach, I can tell you that finding out who you are and discovering your dreams, strengths, and weakness is the key to becoming the most healthy version of yourself. Metaphysical health coaching will help you find what those are. Health coaching puts you in charge.

The best way to get started with metaphysical health coaching is to do a little digging. I’m not talking about going down an internet rabbit hole. I mean digging deep within yourself, or at least as far as you know how. Ask yourself what feels ‘right’ and what isn’t working in your life currently. Find out what forms of wellness interest you and what you want to work on.
Then start looking for a coach. Not every health coach offers the same thing or is geared towards the same demographic. Find one that you jive with! If you’re interested in working together, you can schedule a free call to find out more by going here.
Just like any other form of health coaching, success lies within you. Success will come when you show up for yourself, authentically, every day. Skills and habits take time to acquire. Working with a coach will help you discover which of these you need to develop. Remember, the journey to wellness is a marathon, not a sprint. There will be a lot of trial and error as you discover more about yourself and the techniques that work for you.
It’s easy to get frustrated when we don’t see external progress right away. I always tell my patients and clients that whenever they make choices that serve their highest good, they are healing from the inside out. Some things may just take longer to get to the surface than others.
It’s also important to be open. Be open to the messages you receive – whether it’s from the divine, your highest self, or even your body. Learn to recognize these messages and implement them. Be curious with different practices and allow yourself to experiment and explore in ways that you haven’t before. The best methods for you may be ones that you’ve never tried yet.
Techniques like Reiki, Kundalini, working with Chakras, Crystal healing, working with auras, and sound healing aren’t scientifically verifiable. However, people who engage in these often report improvement in their symptoms.
Getting a clear picture of who you are and what the healthiest version of you looks like is the first step on your journey. Journaling and meditation help clear away the mental clutter and the expectations that have been forced onto you from society and your inner ‘small’ voice. Through these practices, we’ll unearth your highest self and work on improving your emotional and intuitive wellbeing as a way of removing some of the mental barriers that have been holding you back.
During our initial appointment, we’ll go over everything from the first part of the workbook I created specially for my 1:1 clients including goals, areas and practices of interest, and where you’d like to bring more balance into your life. We’ll work collaboratively to form a roadmap for your journey with checkpoints along the way. Just like taking a road trip, our time together will be like pit stops to fill up your gas tank. These might include yoga sessions, meal planning, Reiki healing, tarot reading, and anything else that you want to incorporate. From there, I let YOU take the steering wheel and go along your journey, with me by your side.
That’s totally fine! My academic background helps me keep one foot firmly in science and evidence and my primary role as an outpatient dietitian ensures that I keep my practice rooted in evidence. Part of a custom plan means incorporating as much or as little as you want from me!
Metaphysical Health Coaching is a holistic way of approaching you wellbeing. It encompasses all aspects of yourself so that you can grow into what you’ve always envisioned. However, it’s still health coaching at it’s core. It’s a versatile practice that can incorporate as many or as few practices as you are willing to try.
